- The Best Birthday Gift (Shorty Story)
Mr.Yellow Ball is peering through a window and trying to wake up a cute girl who is still lying on her bed covered by a pink blanket in a girly-pinky bedroom. As usual today also Ms.White Bubbly interrupted the try-to-wake-her-up process of Mr.Yellow Ball by blocking his golden rays which is falling on that lovely, fair, round face. Meanwhile the little Alarmy started to sing by which at last the cute girl woke up and tapped Alarmy’s head so that it could stop singing. She opened her eyes slowly and looked at the time in her mobile even though she daily kept her alarm at 6:00am and of course it is 6:00am in her mobile too. Then her little thumb danced softly on the touch screen of her mobile which she watched carefully and finally gave a smile as if she loved its dance. Her smile grew wider as she read that text message in her mobile which said, Oxygen: Landed at Chennai. :-) After seeing that text, that pretty girl got up happily and looked at Mr.Yellow Ball and Ms.White Bubbly with the same cute smile in her lips. “Preethi!”, a sweet voice came from the mommy-yellowy kitchen. Ofcourse it must be her mom. Preethi replied at once swallowing her happiness “Yes mom! I got up. I know it is 6 o’ clock” and hurried up to get ready. Shweta, Preethi’s mom looked young even on her daughter’s 23rd birthday. She is wearing her favourite red silk saree presented by her hubby Arjun. Her cellphone rang when she was frying onions. She turned on the speaker with one hand and said in astonishment, “Arjun! Where are you?” while her other hand is still busy in making the onions brown. “I’m on my way to temple. What is Preethi doing?”, replied a cracked voice through the mobile. “She is getting ready. She doesn’t know that you’re coming today” said Shweta adding tomatoes and other ingredients. “Wogay. Don’t tell her anything. I’ll call you after reaching there” said Arjun and hung up before she could ask about his breakfast. “Oh! He didn’t even say bye. Pchh” Shweta sighed. After almost an hour Preethi admired her own image in the mirror. She is wearing a small red bindi on her forehead, darky-blacky eyeliners, sparkling earrings, golden necklace around her neck which suits her round face, stunning blue saree hugging her body which added more beauty. ‘Hmmm. Not bad. This saree is nice’, she thought. Exactly 10 miles away from Preethi’s home there is a bakery which is busy delivering the ordered cakes to its customers and Arjun is one of them who is talking over phone without even breathing “Buy more pink colour balloons. Put new batteries for the digicam. The cake is also ready”. After hunging up the call he headed to Nisha’s home who is Preethi’s cousin-cum-best friend. At 7:00am, Preethi and Shweta are having breakfast in fleshy-orangy dining hall. The dining table looked colourful with plates containing kesari, white idlis, green chutney and red chutney. Shweta has broken her fast already and was arranging the table while Preethi has finished only her first idly as one of her hands is busy in holding her mobile and her thumb again is performing make-her-smile dance. “Stop messaging now and eat first. Otherwise you have to surrender your mobile to me”, said the concerned mom and went inside the kitchen. Preethi nodded her head but the make-her-smile dance is still going on. She is very happily looking at the text messages that she has got. Oxygen: Happy bday 2 u my dr :) Me: Thank you :) :) Oxygen: Xcitd 2 meet me huh?!! :) Me: Yeah..:) :) ofcourse :):) only two more hours to meet you :) :) Oxygen: Hwz my gift dr? Me: What else do I need in this world more than you? I’m loving it :) :) :) thank you so much :) :) :) I’m very eager to see you :) :) Oxygen: haha :). K…c u @ 9…gonna ve brkfst now…ll txt u ltr…:) Me: Bye :) She only knows that who could this Oxygen be and what is so special about this birthday. She is the only Princess of an upper middle class family run by King Arjun and Queen Shweta. Arjun is the owner of ASP textiles which is one of the biggest textiles showroom in Chennai and Shweta is a home-maker. Both of them wanted to give their daughter best in everything like every mom and dad in this world and they have succeeded too and now as a result she is earning 8L per annum. They are in the land of happiness after crossing a river of adversities in their past life. Before starting from home, Preethi’s mobile started to ring displaying Kavitha calling. Preethi said, “Hi Kavi…..Thank you…You know what this day is gonna be the most happiest day of my life…What I wanted the most is gonna happen today…Yeah at 9 o’ clock… Ok… any special plans today?… Great… Ok then bye…”. She hung up and put her mobile in her handbag. She hid her millions and trillions of happiness whenever her mom looked at her by starting some conversation with her. “Mom! When will dad come home?” She asked her in excitement. Shweta replied in a sad voice, “He’ll come day after tomorrow . He has to attend his friend’s daughter’s marriage tomorrow at Coimbatore. This is the first birthday he’s not with you”. Both exchanged worried looks and started to Nisha’s home. In Nisha’s home, there were pink balloons everywhere. A board saying happy birthday Preethi is kept at the entrance. Arjun and Nisha are running here and there to finish everything before Preethi comes there. “Uncle what is so special about this birthday? Why did u want to give her such a surprise?, asked Nisha keeping her eyes wide sounding eager. “Hmmm. One day she has to go with some other guy to live her life. When do I get a chance to give her such surprises after that? Hope she’ll like it” Arjun said. There was pin drop silence and those words that came from Arjun’s heart echoed all over the room. He was shocked when he saw Preethi standing there with tears in her eyes. She does not know what to do or how to react. She stood still. She looked around in shock. A cake is kept on a table in the centre of the room. Her emotions ranged from surprise to guilt in a few seconds. She is shattered into pieces. Slideshow of pictures of her childhood started to run in her mind which is then interrupted by happy birthday song. Everyone clapped and led her near the cake. She wiped away her tears, hugged her dad. Then she happily cut the cake. Everyone is enjoying the moment while Preethi is emotionally upset. She has never expected this from her dad. An hour before she was in the excitement of meeting someone. But now she felt that this is the best birthday gift she has ever got and this is the happiest day of her life. She took her mobile and make-her-smile dance didn’t make her smile at all this time. She looked at the text message she has typed for someone. Me: I’m gonna spend this whole day with my dad who is my all time hero. Sorry. I couldn’t come today. C u another day. She pressed send at last. Now she is relieved. She switched off her mobile and joined with her family members. She realized that how much she is special to everyone there. She started to relive her moments as dad’s daughter.
- Being Honest ( 2 Story In 1 Blog )
Story 1: Task of Stealing..!! Once Ramakrishna asked his disciples to steal a little rice from their own home but there was one condition that nobody sees them stealing rice. After a week all of his disciples came back with rice except for one. Everyone was happy as they were able to complete task given to them of stealing rice from home without anyone noticing them. Ramakrishna asked that student reason for coming empty handed. Student told him that even if he tries hard to steal rice hiding from everyone else, he always saw himself stealing rice. So there was never ever a situation when he could have steal rice when nobody is seeing.. Because what ever we do, it is never hidden from one person and that is our-self. That student who came empty handed was Swami Vivekananda. Moral: Whenever we try to do Something Wrong, even if we hide it from Everyone Else yet we can’t Hide it from our-self. So we should Never do anything Wrong. Story 2: Swami Vivekananda in Class..!! Once while in school, recess time Narendra (Swami Vivekananda) was talking to his friends and everyone was listening to him so attentively that they were not aware of what’s happening around them. Meanwhile recess ended and teacher entered class and started teaching his subject to class. After sometime teacher heard some whispering and noticed that students were talking sitting behind. Teacher was annoyed by it and started asking students about what he had been teaching in the class but no one in class could answer him. When teacher asked Narendra same question. Narendra answered each question correctly. Teacher inquired about who was the one student talking to others and kept them involved in talks even during class. Everyone in class pointed toward Narendranath but teacher refused to believe as he was only one who answered everything correctly. Teacher thought everyone was lying. So he punished whole class and asked them to stand on bench as punishment except for Narendra. Yet Narendra joined his friend and stood up on the bench with other students. Teacher asked him to come down and sit on his seat but Narendra replied, “No Sir.. I must also stand up as i was the one who was talking to them..”
- The Unbroken Promise (Short Story)
The air around was still filled with stifle dryness, which couldn’t be set cool even after the blazing sun left the blank sky an hour ago. It was a long summer day and the moon took ages to occupy it’s place that evening. The dampness of Soumya’s eyes contrasted the parched atmosphere. She was sobbing terribly, her head dug inside Sindu’s chest; who was gently running her fingers through her hair, in order to silence her cries. They have been sitting on the rugged bench of the terrace since the past one hour and evidently there was no support from the nature to calm down Soumya. The leaves of the surrounding trees were as still as their trunks beneath, and there was no other sound audible from around than her dismal weeps. The pain inside her, faded down after ten long dreary minutes and she slowly composed herself. It was then Sindu who broke the silence. “Why don’t you apply for a divorce mom?” A wry smile furrowed the quinquagenarian’s face, on seeing her daughter’s reaction at her depressing gesture. She blew her nose with the edge of her saree. The wrinkles around her wheat complexioned petite face, were clearly visible with the appearance of the weary smile. “What’s so funny mom? I’m saying it for your better being.” “Better being?” smirked Soumya. “Yes, of course mom, I have been seeing you both endure bitter fights very often. And I have seen you undergo so much pain every time dad says a word to you. You always end up crying like this every time something happens. If the relationship is so tough to get going, then why do you still continue it?” said Sindu, reasoning her earlier statement. “Oh, so want me to leave your dad just like how you left Raj?” was her immediate retort to the monologic discourse of her frustrated daughter. Sindhu shut herself up from the conversation and made a face. This was the first time Soumya had brought up this topic to Sindhu, ever since her engagement broke with Raj. Neither Soumya nor her husband uttered a word against their daughter regarding this matter, in order to not hurt her thereby. When she was asked why she wanted to discontinue the relation, all Sindhu said was “he isn’t correct for me”. There was no more discussion on this, from that incident and both the families understandingly end their engagement. The end of their three year successful relationship, had left a huge question mark even on the minds of their acquaintances. And when her mother asked her about it today Sindhu was totally perplexed. “Forget it Sindhu. I didn’t mean to go there now.” but it was too unsettling for her, bringing up that discussion. “Mom it isn’t the same with me. But I see you and dad fighting on almost every silly thing. If you are so unmatched with dads, then why don’t u give up? I know there isn’t love between you both anymore. So just try to get a life mom.” said Sindhu in a disdainful tone. Soumya gave a long sternly stare at her daughter and said “I don’t hate your dad Sindhu. I may not be loving him like I did earlier but I know from inside that I don’t hate him like u think” Sindhu just tilted her head facing her mom, looking directly in the eyes “I agree we have our differences and I agree that we are not the perfect couple on this planet. But 26 years back, we both promised each other that we would be together whatsoever. And even today I struggle to keep my keep up my promise.” Sindhu and her mother were close enough to share all possible things that a normal mother-daughter does, but there was always a void that left its place unoccupied. A void of expressing to one another about each other. But today the empty space seemed to be occupied by their open hearted talk. There was a different Soumya today, opening herself to clear her daughter’s queries. There was a long break before she reeled back to her past “I didn’t know about your dad before my marriage. In fact, I didn’t even know what a marriage meant when I was tied a knot to your dad. But all I knew was that I was being put under a great commitment of life which must be preserved till my last breath.” There was a little pause and she continued. ”And after I got married to your father, I understood what life is to share with a complete stranger. You don’t know Sindhu, it’s not very easy to start a living relationship with a person who didn’t even seemed to exist till then. But eventually I have learnt how to love my life and so your father. And there came the bigger responsibility later in your form. Then my bond with him became even stronger.” She kept staring at the rough floor beneath and spoke her heart out “Every night before I go to sleep I keep praising myself at the success of being in a relationship, to which I was committed to be once.” There were tears again in her eyes, but now they constituted of a feeling of pride and content. “It need not always be only love that binds two people together. Commitment plays a better role sometimes.” Sindhu kept listening to the new verse of her mom. This was a side she never visualized. Even though it was late enough to realize this nature of hers, she loved her mom in this angle too and was euphoric that the void was being taken away. A joyous smile augmented her pleased demeanor. They both lay silently, neither of them speaking a word for a fifteen minute pause, but both feeling sated inside for each other. Sindhu placed her hand on her mom’s cheek and wiped away the just formed tear. Soumya caught her hand and looked at her watch. She had a close watch at it and posed “Sindhu, what would u do if your watch gets a malfunction? Will you throw it and get a new one?” Sindhu suddenly raised her head from her mother’s shoulder. She pulled her hand away and made a gesture pointing the other hand that had her watch. “Mom! This is a branded one! It costs 5000 bucks. How will I just throw it off?” “Then what would u do?” “Of course I would get it repaired mom!” and she shrugged, gently giving it a slight caress. “Thank God! I thought you would dump it off, just like u have dumped Raj; saying this watch isn’t the right one!” mocked Soumya making a teasing smile. Realization hit Sindhu like a huge wave hitting a rock on the shore. She was flabbergasted at her mom’s discerning words. She suddenly felt very foolish on how she had given so much importance to an inanimate thing rather than a person whom she once considered the best. Raj and Sindhu shared a beautiful and very intimate relationship at which any person could be jealous at. It was Sindhu’s fault on changing her priorities, so it didn’t take long to get a break in their love. If only she could mend a watch and use it again, why can’t she mend her relation with Raj and get him back again? Sindhu had finally comprehended the hidden fact behind her mom’s words. It was her turn now to feel pain in her heart. Heavy tears were welling up her eyes and she couldn’t control them anymore. Her mom on realizing her daughters mind, held her tight around her shoulders, with all the care for a long moment and let her cry. Soumya got up from the bench, wiped her daughters face with her saree’s edge and said “Chalo Sindhu, dinner time, your dad would be waiting at the table. One fight in a day is enough” she gave a wink on saying this and gestured her daughter to get up. Sindhu just smiled and said “You go mom, I’ll spend some time alone.” Her mom left the place asking her to get down soon. Sindhu took her mobile and dialed a number. After a few rings it was answered and she said “Raj……..”.

- Struggles of our Life (Short Story)
Once upon a time a daughter complained to her father that her life was miserable and that she didn’t know how she was going to make it. She was tired of fighting and struggling all the time. It seemed just as one problem was solved, another one soon followed. Her father, a chef, took her to the kitchen. He filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Once the three pots began to boil, he placed potatoes in one pot, eggs in the second pot and ground coffee beans in the third pot. He then let them sit and boil, without saying a word to his daughter. The daughter, moaned and impatiently waited, wondering what he was doing. After twenty minutes he turned off the burners. He took the potatoes out of the pot and placed them in a bowl. He pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl. He then ladled the coffee out and placed it in a cup. Turning to her, he asked. “Daughter, what do you see?” “Potatoes, eggs and coffee,” she hastily replied. “Look closer”, he said, “and touch the potatoes.” She did and noted that they were soft. He then asked her to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard-boiled egg. Finally, he asked her to sip the coffee. Its rich aroma brought a smile to her face. “Father, what does this mean?” she asked. He then explained that the potatoes, the eggs and coffee beans had each faced the same adversity-the boiling water. However, each one reacted differently. The potato went in strong, hard and unrelenting, but in boiling water, it became soft and weak. The egg was fragile, with the thin outer shell protecting its liquid interior until it was put in the boiling water. Then the inside of the egg became hard. However, the ground coffee beans were unique. After they were exposed to the boiling water, they changed the water and created something new. “Which one are you?” he asked his daughter. “When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a potato, an egg, or a coffee bean?” Moral: In life, things happen around us, things happen to us, but the only thing that truly matters is how you choose to react to it and what you make out of it. Life is all about leaning, adopting and converting all the struggles that we experience into something positive.

Once the bus reached to her school, all students started going to their classes. Anna also made it to her classroom after asking fellow students for direction. Upon seeing her simple clothing and knowing she is from a small village, other students started making fun of her. The teacher soon arrived and she asked everyone to keep quiet. She introduced Anna to the class and told that she will be studying with them only from today. Then the teacher told the students to be ready for the surprise test now! She told everyone to write down the 7 wonders of the world. Everyone started writing the answer quickly. Anna started to write the answer slowly. When everyone except Anna had submitted their answer paper, the teacher came and asked Anna, “What happened Dear? Don’t worry, Just write what you know as other students have learned about it just a couple of days back”. Anna replied, “I was thinking that there are so many things, which 7 I can pick to write!” And, then she handed her answer paper to the teacher. The teacher started reading everyone’s answers and the majority had answered them correctly such as The Great Wall of China, Colosseum, Stonehedge, Great Pyramid of Giza, Leaning Tower of Pisa, Tajmahal, Hanging Gardens of Babylon etc. The teacher was happy as students had remembered what she had taught them. At last the teacher picked up Anna’s answer paper and started reading. “The 7 Wonders are – To be able to See, To be able to Hear, To be able to Feel, To Laugh, To Think, To be Kind, To Love!” The teacher stood stunned and the whole class was speechless. Today, a girl from the small village reminded them about the precious gifts that god has given us, which are truly a wonder. Moral Value what you have, use what you have, trust what you have. You don’t always have to look away to find an inspiration. God has given you all the strength to reach your goals.
- Sweet Dreams (Short Story)
A young boy and girl were enjoying a pleasant afternoon playing outside in their neighborhood together. The boy showed the girl his collection of beautiful, unique marbles. In turn, the girl showed the boy the handful of candy that she had just gotten for her birthday. The boy proposed that the two of them switch–he would give her all of his marbles if she handed over all of her candy. The girl agreed, as she found the marbles to be beautiful as well. The boy handed over all of his marbles, but kept one–the most exquisite one of them all–in his pocket. The girl kept her promise and gave the boy all of her candy. That night, the girl was happy with the exchange and peacefully went to sleep. The boy, however, couldn’t sleep, as he was up wondering if the girl had secretly kept some of her candy, just like he did with the marble. The Moral: If you don’t give 100% in your relationships, you will always assume your partner isn’t giving 100% either. If you want your relationships to be built on trust, you have to be a participating factor in that. Honesty grows your character. By being honest in relationships, you’re holding your partner accountable to do the same. It allows both you and your partner to continuously think about your choices and how you can help (or hurt) your partner and your relationship
- Boy’s Weakness (Short Story)
A 10-year-old boy decided to study judo despite the fact that he had lost his left arm in a devastating car accident. The boy began lessons with an old Japanese judo master. The boy was doing well, so he couldn’t understand why, after three months of training the master had taught him only one move. “Sensei,”(Teacher in Japanese) the boy finally said, “Shouldn’t I be learning more moves?” “This is the only move you know, but this is the only move you’ll ever need to know,” the sensei replied. Not quite understanding, but believing in his teacher, the boy kept training. Several months later, the sensei took the boy to his first tournament. Surprising himself, the boy easily won his first two matches. The third match proved to be more difficult, but after some time, his opponent became impatient and charged; the boy deftly used his one move to win the match. Still amazed by his success, the boy was now in the finals. This time, his opponent was bigger, stronger, and more experienced. For a while, the boy appeared to be overmatched. Concerned that the boy might get hurt, the referee called a time-out. He was about to stop the match when the sensei intervened. “No,” the sensei insisted, “Let him continue.” Soon after the match resumed, his opponent made a critical mistake: he dropped his guard. Instantly, the boy used his move to pin him. The boy had won the match and the tournament. He was the champion. On the way home, the boy and sensei reviewed every move in each and every match. Then the boy summoned the courage to ask what was really on his mind. “Sensei, how did I win the tournament with only one move?” “You won for two reasons,” the sensei answered. “First, you’ve almost mastered one of the most difficult throws in all of the judo. And second, the only known defense for that move is for your opponent to grab your left arm.” The boy’s biggest weakness had become his biggest strength. Moral Sometimes we feel that we have certain weaknesses and we blame God, the circumstances or ourselves for it but we never know that our weaknesses can become our strengths one day. Each of us is special and important, so never think you have any weakness, never think of pride or pain, just live your life to its fullest and extract the best out of it!

- Enjoy the moment
After spending nearly every waking minute with Angel for eight straight days, I knew that I had to tell her just one thing. So late at night, just before she fell asleep, I whispered it in her ear. She smiled – the kind of smile that makes me smile back –and she said, ‘When I’m seventy-five and I think about my life and what it was like to be young, I hope that I can remember this very moment.’ A few seconds later she closed her eyes and fell asleep. The room was peaceful – almost silent. All I could hear was the soft purr of her breathing. I stayed awake thinking about the time we’d spent together and all the choices in our lives that made this moment possible. And at some point, I realized that it didn’t matter what we’d done or where we’d gone. Nor did the future hold any significance. All that mattered was the serenity of the moment. Just being with her and breathing with her.
